Most homes have a room that has to do two jobs. The office that becomes a guest room at Thanksgiving. The den where the grandkids sleep over. A full bed takes that room over all year for the few nights you need it, and a pull-out couch or an air mattress means asking guests to sleep on something you would not sleep on yourself.
The Cottage Cabinet Bed looks like a cabinet because it is one. Closed, it sits against the wall at under four feet tall, with grooved panel doors and a long drawer underneath. When someone stays the night, it unfolds into a queen bed, mattress and all, in under 1 minute. In the morning it folds back and the room is yours again.
Cabinet to queen bed in less than 1 minute
Filmed on our showroom floor. No tools, no heavy lifting, no rearranging the room. Open it up, fold it out, and the bed is ready. Closing it takes the same amount of time.
A guest bed that folds away into storage
A full queen bed
Not a double, not a futon. Your guests get the same size bed most couples sleep on at home.
Ready in under a minute
Opening and closing is a one person job, quick enough to do every night if the room needs it.
Stands on its own
The cabinet is free-standing, so there is no wall mounting and no drilling. Place it against any wall, in any room, including a rental or a condo.
Mattress included
It comes with its own CertiPUR-US® certified mattress, tested for content, emissions and durability. There is nothing extra to buy.
Storage built in
A full-length drawer runs along the base, sized for pillows, sheets and spare blankets. The bedding lives with the bed.
Looks like furniture
Grooved panel doors and simple cottage lines mean it reads as a sideboard or console when closed, not a bed in disguise.
Birch plywood, not particleboard

Prestige built its name on solid wood, and we hold everything we carry to that same standard: it has to be built well enough to put our name on it. The Cottage cabinet is made from birch plywood, layered with the grain running in alternating directions so it stays flat, holds screws tight and stands up to a bed being opened and closed again and again.
What you will not find inside is particleboard or MDF. Those pressed materials are common in lower priced fold-away beds, and they are usually the first thing to sag or crumble at the screw holes.
The mattress meets CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions and durability, so it is a mattress you can feel good about putting in a home office or a child's room.
Dimensions and specifications
Cottage Cabinet Bed Dimensions
Plan for about 82 inches (just under 7 feet) from the wall when the bed is open, plus room to walk around it.

The Cottage Cabinet Bed comes in two finishes

Alabaster
A soft, warm white. It keeps a small room feeling bright and sits easily next to painted trim and lighter floors.
Choose this finish
Hickory
A warm, mid-tone wood look with visible grain. A good match for traditional rooms and darker floors.
Choose this finishColours on a screen are never quite the same as in person. If you are matching existing furniture, the showroom is the best place to compare.
Care
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth using water or a cleaner made for wood. Avoid all purpose cleaners and anything abrasive, as they will damage the finish over time. Use placemats and coasters and felt pads under anything you slide across the surface.
Open it yourself
A bed that folds into a cabinet is hard to judge from photos. At our Coquitlam showroom you can open it, sit on the mattress, pull out the drawer and close it again. Most people know within a couple of minutes whether it is right for their room.
Bring the measurements of the wall and the floor space you have in mind, and we will tell you if it will fit well in the space.
No appointment needed. Walk in during showroom hours and someone will open it up with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cabinet bed?
A cabinet bed is a full size bed that folds into a piece of furniture. Closed, the Cottage looks like a low cabinet or sideboard. Open, it becomes a queen bed with its own mattress. It gives a room a proper guest bed without giving up the floor space the rest of the year.
Is a cabinet bed the same as a Murphy bed?
They do the same job in different ways. A Murphy bed, or wall bed, folds up into a tall unit that stands against the wall, usually floor to almost ceiling. A cabinet bed folds into a low, free-standing cabinet that needs no wall mounting and keeps your wall space free above it. We carry both. See the Monte Carlo Wall Bed if you would like to compare.
Does it come with a mattress?
Yes. The Cottage comes with a queen mattress that is CertiPUR-US® certified for content, emissions and durability. It stays inside the cabinet when the bed is closed.
How much room do I need to open it?
Plan for about 82 inches (just under 7 feet) from the wall when the bed is open, plus space to walk around it. Closed, the cabinet is 66.5 inches wide and just over 25 inches deep.
Does it need to be attached to the wall?
No. The cabinet is free-standing, so there is no drilling and no wall mounting. That makes it a good fit for rentals, condos and rooms where you may want to move it later.
How long does it take to open and close?
Less than a minute either way. It is a one person job.
Is the Cottage Cabinet Bed solid wood?
The cabinet is birch plywood, which is strong, stable and holds hardware well. It contains no particleboard or MDF.
Can I see it in a showroom?
Can I see it in a showroom? Yes. It is on display at our Coquitlam showroom at 79 Clipper Street. You can open it, sit on it and compare both finishes in person. No appointment needed.
Will it fit your room?
Send us your room measurements and any questions, and we will reply by the next business day. Or come open it yourself at our Coquitlam showroom.
